Course Aim: 

To provide the skills & knowledge to staff with the role of supporting Vulnerable Adults to understand the importance of Reminiscence, activities and a person centered approach. Allowing staff to implement this within their working environment.

  • The role of Reminiscence in Dementia care
  • How to approach Reminiscence
  • Triggers in Reminiscence
  • Reminiscence Activities and how to implement them in a day to day environment
  • Planning a Reminiscence session
  • Ideas for Reminiscence sessions
  • Looking at Resources
  • Experience taking part in a Reminiscence session and evaluating it

At the end of the course all candidates will have covered and understood the following modules:

  • What Reminisce is
  • How to recognise and understand why we reminisce
  • How to implement Reminiscence in Dementia Care
  • Take part in a ‘Time Line’ activity and how this can be implemented into a working environment to enhance the lives of each individual
  • How to plan and run a Reminiscence session – Record keeping and evaluation
  • Looking at different resources for Reminiscence
  • How important memories are to an individual
  • How to approach Reminiscence in everyday life
  • How to look at each individuals hobbies, likes and dislikes
  • How to conduct conversation around Reminiscence
  • Recording and reporting processes ensuring confidentiality
  • Understand when to breach confidentiality to maintain Safeguarding
  • How to ensure a Person Centered Approach is maintained 
  • Different activities – life story, memory box, scrapbooks and equally important ways to produce a ‘life story’
  • How to understand the Dignity Challenge and how to implement this into practice
