Care Home Evacuated

Fire crews attended the incident at Foxley House Care Home on Monday evening.

Care home staff were already evacuating residents as the firefighters arrived.

Watch Manager Mark Andrews explained: “When we arrived, we could immediately see that we had a confirmed fire and my immediate actions were to commit firefighters to deal with the fire and start helping with the evacuation of the residents.”

One resident was taken to hospital after sustaining minor injuries from a fall during the evacuation.

Residents were unable to return to the building because of significant fire damage and have been given alternative accommodation within two nearby care homes.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service are investigating the cause of the fire.
In a bid to remove potential fire hazards, commercial buildings and non-domestic premises in Scotland are already forced to carry out a fire safety risk assessment under the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005, in conjunction with the Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006, if the assessment is thought to have been carried out to an insufficient extent, the enforcing authority has the power to prosecute the Dutyholder.
