Course Aim:

To increase the knowledge of all learners in the understanding of the basics of Dementia,

and improve communication with an individual who suffers with this condition using a person centred care approach.

To focus on the Individual, not the condition.

  • To inform learners how having Dementia may impact on daily life, skills and abilities.
  • To give knowledge to learners about the distinguishing features of the main forms of dementia.
  • How we can adopt our approach to maximise the individual’s ability to communicate and engage meaningfully.

  5.       Creutzfeldt-Jacobs Disease (CJD)
  6.       Korsakoff’s Syndrome
  7.       HIV-Associated Neurocognitive Disorder (HAND)
  8.       Mild Cognitive Impairment
  • The Brain and some of the main functions
  • The Dementia Bookcase
  • Indicators of Dementia
  • Communication
  • Minimising Distress and Emotions
  • Ways to Help and Activities
